The Book is really good and easy to follow. I am a practising engineer and bought it for personal study. Students should find it very useful. The big problem being an engineer outside the US is the unit system, I still cant understand why keep suffering with this terrible unit system. An edition with international units would be very valuable.
Of course that shouldnt too much trouble for any engineer to work with, but the sense of magnituds is hard (impossible) to acomplish.

Tufte is obsessed with quality – the book is printed on 100% rag paper using old fashioned lead type because he believes this yields the highest quality results. One of the best books I have ever read when it comes to visual design!

event.

Some great examples are given (most prominently the walkway of a Houston
hotel that collapsed during the opening ceremony) with pictures and detailed
analysis. Great stuff even for non civil-engineers since with some
imagination you may learn some more general design lessons.

The editorial side of the book is less impressing, most facts and
interpretations are repeated 3 or 4 times throughout the book (excluding the
introduction and back flap) so I never got further than 3 quarters into it,
preventing myself from another deja vu.

In any way, a very important and useful read.

The book is written in a conversational style, a trademark of all of John Anderson’s texts, to enhance the readers’ understanding.

This is an excellent book and can be used as a continuation of Introduction to Flight by the same author. This book focuses on airplane design and performance, but also gives a very clear introduction to propulsion and aerodynamics of airplanes. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in airplane design, as well as Daniel Raymer’s book Aircraft Design: A Conceptual Approach. Both books I found to be extremely interesting and written in clear, easy to understand language.
This book was used in an upper level Aircraft Performance and Dynamics class that I recently took. I also found this book very helpful in my Aircraft Design class and my Aircraft Propulsion class. In short, a student of aeronautical engineering couldn’t ask for a more well rounded book on aircraft design–covering all the aforementioned topics.
If only all engineering textbooks were so well written!

Anderson always writes a good book and this is no exception. It is an excellent book for Aircraft performance and design. He walks you through some nice examples to help you understand aircraft performance and I especially like how he reworks some equations to give you a different perspective of the major variables contributing to the given parameters. The last chapters have a nice example of a conceptual aircraft build-up with some details. His identification of the “7 pivot points” of aircraft conceptual design and optimization is a great foundation for anyone interested in aircraft design. This book always sits open at my desk and gets just as much use at Shevell and Raymer.

Ulrich and Eppinger have done a great job of presenting a usable framework with a functional set of tools for product development. Their book is easy to read, easy to apply, yet very powerful for aiding the product development process. I refer to it often in my own work. The many examples from a variety of industries provide a richness not present in many other works in this field. Read it before your next project meeting.
Product Design and Development is a very practical, tools-based book. It is written in a way that each chapter can be used on its own (e.g., identifying customer needs, generating product concepts). We require all of our new engineers and designers to read the book and ask them to adhere to the methods associated with several of our “stage/gate processes.” This is not a high-level strategy book; it tells you how to do product design and development in the trenches. Excellent book and worth every penny.
