Think DSP: Digital Signal Processing in Python by Allen B. Downey pdf free download

Description:

If you understand basic mathematics and know how to program with Python, you’re ready to dive into signal processing. While most resources start with theory to teach this complex subject, this practical book introduces techniques by showing you how they’re applied in the real world. In the first chapter alone, you’ll be able to decompose a sound into its harmonics, modify the harmonics, and generate new sounds.

Author Allen Downey explains techniques such as spectral decomposition, filtering, convolution, and the Fast Fourier Transform. This book also provides exercises and code examples to help you understand the material.

You’ll explore:

  • Periodic signals and their spectrums
  • Harmonic structure of simple waveforms
  • Chirps and other sounds whose spectrum changes over time
  • Noise signals and natural sources of noise
  • The autocorrelation function for estimating pitch
  • The discrete cosine transform (DCT) for compression
  • The Fast Fourier Transform for spectral analysis
  • Relating operations in time to filters in the frequency domain
  • Linear time-invariant (LTI) system theory
  • Amplitude modulation (AM) used in radio

Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning by Christopher M. Bishop pdf free download

Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning by Christopher M. Bishop pdf free download

Description:

This is the first textbook on pattern recognition to present the Bayesian viewpoint. The book presents approximate inference algorithms that permit fast approximate answers in situations where exact answers are not feasible. It uses graphical models to describe probability distributions when no other books apply graphical models to machine learning. No previous knowledge of pattern recognition or machine learning concepts is assumed. Familiarity with multivariate calculus and basic linear algebra is required, and some experience in the use of probabilities would be helpful though not essential as the book includes a self-contained introduction to basic probability theory.

I do not have a formal math background and I am able to follow this book. It is very easy to understand for a self motivated learner. The highest math class I have taken was Calculus in high school; the rest has been supplemental from various online videos and wikipedia articles. The author provides both the symbolic mathematical explanation as well as the geometric meaning in graphs. This really helps to clarify things. I am learning the math, the techniques, and the intuition behind it as well. This is rare to find all in one source but this book manages to do an excellent job at it.

Managing 12 Volts: How to Upgrade, Operate, and Troubleshoot 12 Volt Electrical Systems by Harold Barre pdf free download

Managing 12 Volts: How to Upgrade, Operate, and Troubleshoot 12 Volt Electrical Systems by Harold Barre pdf free download

Description:

How to upgrade, operate and troubleshoot 12-volt systems with emphasis on understanding what may be wrong with a system and how to improve it with a multi-stage charging system. Excellent diagrams, clear, concise writing.

for a long time now, i was looking for a “start from scratch” book in understanding auto electronics. a book with illustrations that actually explains how it works. this book is a great introduction, a must buy if you really want to know the fundamentals. even though it’s about RV’s too, it tells you all you need to know about autos.
the more you read, the better you understand what you read.
i now know how the battery really works, know what it really does, what the altenator does. i know about switches, sensor, actuators and solenoids now. at first you you need time to grasp the concept, but it gets easy to understand very quickly. 5 stars.

I have a bunch of motorcycles, a camper with generator/inverter/converter, trailers etc, all of which have batteries that need to be stored/ charged/ used. This book helped me FULLY understand each system and how to get the most out of it. This book explains EVERYTHING about 12v and 6v batteries and system operations. From solar, to charging etc.

I have purchased multiple copies to give as gifts to anyone I have known to struggle with replacing motorcycle, lawnmower, tractor or camper batteries every year because they don’t understand fully proper setup, maintenance, and charging of batteries.

Excellent source of information about your 12-volt system. Explains things in plain English, you don’t have to be an electrician to understand the contents. If you have a trailer, toy hauler, or motorhome with a 12-volt system, get it and keep it in the RV. You’ll be glad you did!
